Application For Membership

In order to become a member of Local 877 and you are employed by an Employer that the Union has a current contract with you must complete the proper paperwork. The timeframe for application requirements are specific to each contract.

Each new union member must complete appropriate paperwork from the Union office. This paperwork includes an “Application for Membership” card, a “Dues Authorization” card and applicable benefit paperwork.  Please see your Union Steward for this paperwork.

Have you completed the appropriate paperwork and paid the Initiation fee?

Initiation Fees

Initiation fees must be paid in full before a union member will be initiated into the Union. This fee may be paid through payroll deductions or directly sent to the Union office by the member. Employees are not considered union members in good standing until this fee is paid in full. As there are three branches of Local 877 with different initiation fees members should speak with their steward or the Union office to find the appropriate amount of the initiation fee.

Feel free to contact Melissa Thomas at the Union office with any questions.

Are you on a leave of absence?

You may qualify for Minimum Monthly Dues

Any member on a leave of absence form work due to illness, injury or lay off may appeal to the Executive Board of Local 877 to pay minimum monthly dues. The current minimum monthly dues is set at $15.25. If in this situation, a letter of request should be sent to the Union office explaining the circumstances of the leave. The Executive Board will review said request and determine whether the individual should qualify for minimum monthly dues. Union members requesting minimum monthly dues will be advised in writing of the Executive Boards’ decision.

Have you left your Union position?

Union Membership Withdrawal or Suspension

Any member leaving employment of a Union contractor should inform the Union.

Withdrawal cards show that a union member has left the Union in good standing. If this member should ever return to the Union there are applicable fees but you will not be required to repay their initiation fee.

To obtain a withdrawal card Union members should send a short letter to the Union office requesting such along with a check or money order for $5.00 made payable to IUOE Local 877.

Any member who has unpaid dues for 3 consecutive months has met the criteria for suspension from the Union. If Union membership is suspended and the suspended member ever wishes to return to the Union this member must be approved by the Executive Board and repay the initiation fee.
