Welcome
IUOE Local 877 represents stationary engineers and maintenance workers
throughout Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Maine and Vermont. This
website has been designed as a tool to more effectively communicate the
activities of the Union Hall to the membership and potential members. Please
provide us with any
feedback or suggestions you may
have to improve this site.
Local 877 was founded in 1965 and chartered by the International Union of
Operating Engineers as a stationary Local with jurisdiction for all of New
England. The majority of the current membership works in Massachusetts with
Maine being the second most populace state for Local 877.
Most of our members work in either Power Plants or as maintenance engineers
in facilities like hospitals, universities and schools, office buildings,
trash-to-energy plants, department of public works or factories. We have over
1,200 members with over sixty (60) different labor agreements.
Our staff organizes new members, negotiates contracts and represents members
in all matters regarding their working conditions. We provide members with
representation in cases of discipline or when a member or members believe their
employer has violated provisions of their contract.
Local 877 has union stewards in all our worksites. These stewards are the
eyes and ears of the Local. They are the conduit of information both for the
members and for the Local staff.
To better serve our membership we must always continue to grow. We are always
looking for new organizing opportunities. Please contact the Local or let your
steward know of any potential organizing opportunities.
